Comfort cushioned running shoes are designed for those looking to increase or maintain a high level of training mileage, for walkers looking to build up an exercise habit, for professionals who stand on hard surfaces throughout the day, or for folks who just don't want to subject their feet to the constant impact of a high workload. Comfort cushioned shoes often feature novel uses of materials and the latest technology to maintain a consistent feel despite the increased distance from the ground.

An increase in cushion between the foot and the running /walking/standing surface reduces the amount of feedback received by the foot and - as a result - may reduce the foot's ability to strengthen over time. This may be generally offset by the fact that increased cushion may allow the user to cover greater distance, complete a higher frequency of exercise, and benefit from the resulting fitness improvement. Comfort cushioned shoes at the Ultra Running Company have more than 27mm of cushion.

Pros:

- Feel pretty darned awesome

- "Margin of error" for heel strikes

- Facilitates lower offset options

- Facilitates increased distance

Cons:

- Compresses & deforms over time

- Reduction in ground feedback

- Potential for less foot muscle development
